A Multi-Dimensional Entropy Model of Jazz Improvisation for Music Information Retrieval (PhD dissertation, University of North Texas, 2005). A study of the improvising musician as a communications system, built on full transcriptions and analyses of jazz performance and measured with entropy over symbolic sequences, the mathematics the AI field now calls perplexity, written twenty years before the machines arrived.
